Keep Your Medicaid Coverage
New work requirements and renewals will go into effect January 1, 2027.
Act now to make sure you can keep your coverage and benefits. Update your contact information and find out what action you may need to take.
Starting January 1, 2027, Louisiana Medicaid work requirements may affect some members who are ages 19 to 64. Please read this page carefully to help you understand what may be changing and what steps you may need to take to keep your coverage.
Members up for renewal were mailed a notice about the new work requirements back in May 2026 and will be mailed renewal packets with work requirement material in November 2026. Notices will be sent about six months in advance of when a member is up for renewal.
Step 1: Keep your contact information up to date.
Make sure Louisiana Medicaid has your mailing address, phone number, and email address.
Step 2: Watch your mail for important notices from Louisiana Medicaid.
A letter from the state may include important updates about your coverage.
Step 3: Report your activities on time, if you are directed to do so.
Fulfilling all paperwork will help you to keep your coverage.
Louisiana Works and Louisiana Community & Technical Colleges bring together resources to help you meet the new Medicaid work requirements. See Resources by Region on this page.
These rules are also called community engagement requirements. To meet the requirements, members must show Medicaid that they are doing one of the following each month:
If Louisiana Medicaid is unable to determine work requirements using available data sources, then the member will need to provide proof.
You will have to fill out a self-attestation form as part of their application process. This will tell Louisiana Medicaid how you are meeting the requirements.
Must submit a community engagement verification form, which will be included in your renewal packet along with instructions. Members will need to fill in the portion of the form that applies to their specific situation.
Members who are exempt or do not need to meet the requirement should not receive a notice asking them to provide more information.
For a list of ways members can be exempt, visit the Louisiana Department of Heath website.
